Description
Antioxidants and Free Radicals Free radicals are molecules which harm healthy body cells. The accumulated damage caused by free radicals is considered a primary cause of the ageing process. You can dramatically slow-down this ageing process (anti-ageing) by combating free radical activity with antioxidants.
No.15 Red Superfrutis fills the gap to “mop-up” all the body’s free radical generation on a daily basis to slow the ageing process (anti-ageing).
Average daily free radical generation:
• General public 3500 – 5000 units of cellular damage per day.
• Professional / Olympic full-time athlete in training 10,000 – 12,000 units of cellular damage with 2 to 6 hours of physical activity per day
What is an ORAC?
ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) is the scientific standard for measuring the antioxidant potency of foods and dietary supplements. The ORAC assay was originally developed by Dr. Guohua Cao of the National Institute of Aging in 1992. In 1996 Dr. Cao joined Dr. Ronald Prior’s group at the USDA Human Nutrition Research Centre, where together they were instrumental in automating the ORAC assay. Since then, the ORAC assay has been extensively utilized in the field of antioxidant and oxidative stress.
Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) is an exciting and revolutionary new test tube analysis that can be utilized to test “Antioxidant Power” of foods and other chemical substances. This analytical procedure measures the ability of a food, vitamin, nutritional supplement, or other chemical to protect against the attack by free radicals, or to act as an antioxidant. The test is performed using Trolox (a watersoluble analogue of vitamin E) as a standard to determine the Trolox Equivalent (TE). The ORAC value is then calculated from the Trolox Equivalent and expressed as ORAC units or value. The higher the ORAC value, the greater the “Antioxidant Power”.
No.15 Red Superfruits if compared on the same basis as fruits and vegetables, would provide an ORAC value of 830,000 units per 100 grams. Two of our No.15 Red Superfruits capsules provide over 10,000 ORAC units and you only have to consume 1.25 grams vs.100 grams of fruits/vegetables. Raspberries are considered a good antioxidant fruit and may contain 1,220 ORAC units per 100 grams. To achieve the ORAC value of 2 of our capsules you would need to consume over 800 grams of raspberries!
