Mid Face Rejuvenation

What does this even mean? People may call you two faced but actually maybe we need to start thinking of our face as a section of thirds. I shall explain why shortly.

Dermal Fillers are absolutely amazing for rejuvenation. Made of Hyaluronic acid they absorb 1000x their weight in water and so are great for replacing lost volume and helping to reduce lines and folds. However, aesthetics isn’t simply about popping a bit of dermal filler in to make your cheeks bigger or your lips plumper, although you may get practitioners that treat all individuals exactly the same way. The truth is there isn’t an exact formula. Have you ever heard of the golden ratio? No? Well, please read on. I promise you will find it interesting. If you don’t, you’re welcome to unsubscribe.

Aesthetics is about YOU as an individual and looking at how your proportions sit within the golden ratio. If you have ever had a treatment with me, you will remember me taking photos from all sorts of angles, stepping back midway through your treatment, sitting you back up. Well now you know what I am actually doing. It’s the perfectionist in me. It’s about how all of your facial features come together. How your eyes, nose, mouth, cheeks, and jaw just look relative to each other. Men have different proportions to women and what we don’t want to do is inadvertently masculinise you.

The Golden Ratio

GO ON, TRY IT! – Measure the length and width of the face. Then divide the length by the width. The ideal result, as defined by the Golden Ratio, is roughly 1.62.

The Golden Ratio (also known as Phi) underlies our perception of attractiveness. There’s a possibility that the human eye can process a face faster when it features the golden ratio, thereby making it more aesthetically pleasing.

The Golden Ratio is not just observed in humans, but it is actually used in architecture and art work as well. It also occurs in nature, in the patterns we sometimes see in sunflowers, pinecones, seashells and other plants and animals.

Leonardo is thought to have used the golden ratio when painting the Mona Lisa!

Two faced? Or two thirds?

You made it this far, well done. I’m about to prove why you’re not two faced (so you can’t unsubscribe).DID YOU KNOW you can also divide the face into three segments, or thirds. Take a look at the first image. Draw a line from the forehead hairline to a spot between the eyes, from between the eyes to the bottom of the nose, and from the bottom of the nose to the bottom of the chin. If the numbers are equal, a person is considered more beautiful. So now when I refer to Mid Face Rejuvenation, it should all fall into face, I mean place (sorry!!), that I am referring to rejuvenation in the middle horizontal segment of the face.

Mid Face Rejuvenation

Rejuvenating the mid face is a good place to start to minimise the signs of ageing.

It will improve the general appearance of the face by adding volume, removing angles and shadows. Naso-labial folds (nose to mouth lines), marionette lines (mouth to chin lines) and the jowls (the area that can sag around the jaw line) will be improved.

Treating the mid face first will reduce the amount of dermal filler required in the lower face. Yes that’s right, the lower third.

It will also prevent tissues sagging in the future and save you money in the long run.

What we notice as we age, is that when it comes to calculating the Golden Ratio certain facial measurements, such as the distance between the mouth and nose, and the width of the mouth and nose tend to expand with age. In addition, with age our face tends to lose volume and the skin loses elasticity, often becoming saggy. This means that with time, even faces that were previously considered symmetrical tend to deviate from the Golden Ratio.

Thanks to aesthetics treatments using dermal fillers it is possible to restore your proportions closer to the Golden Ratio to rejuvenate ageing features.
