Lady receiving lip filler injection

Lip Fillers

From our late twenties our lips start to become thinner flatter, and less defined.  There may be vertical lines that extend from the lip border or that extend downwards from the corners of the mouth creating a downturned mouth. By injecting a small amount of lip filler we can create a happier and more youthful, rejuvenated appearance to boost your confidence.

Younger patients may want to highlight their lips cosmetically and this can be discussed at a thorough consultation as to what is a safe volume of lip filler to inject.

What are the benefits of a Lip Filler treatment?

Why choose Finesse for your Lip Filler Treatment?

Your consultation

At Finesse, you will receive an in depth consultation ahead of your Lip Filler treatment. We do not take this responsibility lightly. The consultation includes a facial assessment and your skin concerns and expectations will be discussed. Your full medical history will be taken including any allergies, potential contraindications and any previous cosmetic treatments you have had. We will determine your suitability for treatment and we will discuss with you the potential side effects of the therapy and how to minimise these. Where in your best interests, a treatment is refused, the reasons why will be explained.

Take your time to digest

We recommend you take a minimum of 24 hours to consider all the pros and cons before making a decision to book a treatment. Why not look at this link to help you to decide: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/cosmetic-procedures/dermal-fillers/

Your practitioner

Sarah Newey is an Independent Prescribing Pharmacist and Aesthetics Practitioner. Once she has ascertained your suitability for treatment she is able to prescribe the medication ready for your appointment. Your treatment will also be carried out by Sarah.

Aftercare Service

Following your treatment you will be provided with extensive aftercare information. Sarah will be on hand 24/7 to assist you with any concerns during this time. Should you require aftercare medication a private prescription can be written for you. Included in your treatment cost is a review to assess the results after 2 weeks.

FAQs

Yes at Finesse Skin Clinic we require you to have a thorough consultation prior to treatment to ensure we can help you in the best possible way. We will look at your medical history and advise you whether you are suitable for this lip filler treatment. You will also be given advice to follow ahead of your treatment.

When you arrive for treatment numbing cream will be applied for 20-30minutes. During this time we will discuss your desired results. Either a small needle or cannula can be used to carry out the treatment which should take around 20-30 minutes. You will be provided with after care advice which you must follow carefully.
It is very common for your lips to swell after your treatment and for there to be some bruising. This swelling may last a few days and is sometimes worse in the morning than in the evening. Sometimes it can last up to 2 weeks post treatment. You may be advised to take an anti-histamine or use a cold pack to help with the swelling and use arnica gel or tablets to help to reduce the bruising. Should you notice anything unusual such as intense pain, heat, or a lack of colour to the area of the skin you must contact us urgently and we will assess whether we need to see you for a face to face appointment.
The lips are one of the most sensitive areas on the face and so discomfort is expected. You will be given numbing cream to reduce the discomfort. In addition, all of our fillers contain a local anaesthetic.
At Finesse you will be offered a subtle solution for enhancement. I will listen to your requirements at your consultation and advise you on the best way to achieve your desired look. There is a perfect lip ratio of 1:1.6 for natural beauty. Fashion is constantly changing and many patients now opt for a lip ratio of 1:1. Occasionally, I will refuse treatment if I consider it is inappropriate.

You must allow a full 2 weeks for your lips to settle before assessing the need for more volume. On average you can expect your lips to lose 10-20% of the size once the swelling has gone.Thinner lips may require more than one treatment to build up the lip volume, this is to maintain safety. A further treatment can be done 2 weeks after your first treatment if this is considered appropriate. If you have come from another practitioner you must wait a full 6 months before booking in for a further lip treatment unless you know the name of the lip filler that was used. This is to avoid complications with treatment.

It is common to experience lumps in the first two weeks after treatment as the filler become integrated in your own tissue. Follow the instructions that have been given to you. After 2 weeks if they are still present then please arrange a follow up consultation to assess.  Should you experience pain or swelling associated with these lips then call us sooner to assess. You may need a prescription of steroids to resolve it.

It can vary from person to person but anywhere from 4 to 12 months.

It is important to wait a FULL 2 weeks to allow the lips to settle. If you are not happy with the result then please make an appointment for a review where we can discuss your concerns. Lip fillers can be dissolved although this is a risk in itself. This is a chargeable service.
