How to prolong the results of your ‘In-clinic’ SkinPen® Precision Micro-needling treatment at home.

Micro-needling is a safe and effective way to rejuvenate the skin. Potential benefits from micro-needling treatments include a reduction in the appearance of large pores, fines lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, loose and sagging skin, pigmentation and uneven skin tone. One question often asked is can these results be achieved with an at home micro-needling device?

In order to investigate this question we need to have an understanding of what micro-needling is and how the in-clinic and at-home devices can differ.

Often referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), micro-needling comfortably creates thousands of controlled micro-injuries in the skin to trigger the body’s natural wound healing process, this process results in the formation and remodelling of collagen and elastin which supports the underlying tissue.

The new collagen that’s formed will help smooth out your skin’s appearance, helping to fill in fine lines, wrinkles and scars.

SkinPen® Precision
Micro-needling Device

SkinPen® Precision is the only in-clinic treatment that is FDA-approved. It is classed as a medical device and has been laboratory tested and validated to prevent the risk of cross contamination. It contains 14 state of the art, super tensile strength stainless needles in the tip of a single use cartridge. For accuracy these needles can be adjusted within the cartridge unit with a variable depth of 0.25mm to 2.5mm allowing versatility to create change in many areas of the body; including the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.

SkinPen® is also less painful and less traumatic than in-clinic dermaroller treatments as it penetrates the skin vertically. With a roller the needle penetrates the skin at an angle causing more chance of tears through the skin leading to unnecessary trauma and a longer recovery time. (Click image for more information.)

Flexi London
Micro-needling Tool

The Flexi London micr0-needler tool is a roller device set at a depth of 0.25mm which is completely safe for home use. I do not advocate that you use a device with needles longer than this at home, as you will potentially end up damaging your skin. It creates micro-channels in the top layer of your skin encouraging it to repair and renew. You can use your favourite serums and moisturisers immediately after use enhancing their absorption. Conclusion

There are many advantages of having an in-clinic SkinPen® Precision Micro-needling treatment.

It is not possible to achieve the same depths and safely with an at home micro-needling tool as you can with an in-clinic treatment.

The in-clinic SkinPen® Precision Micro-needling Device is single use and has been rigorously tested to avoid risk of cross contamination and infection. The at home tool will need to be thoroughly cleaned between treatments with isopropylalcohol or surgical spirit to prevent an infection. As a result of the SkinPen® Cartridge being single use you know it is will last for 90 minutes of continued use. An at home micro-needle tool will need to be replaced every 3 months if being used every 2-3 nights as recommended.

Despite the at home Flexi London Micro-needler Tool not being able to penetrate to the same depths as the in clinic treatment it will still stimulate collagen production and will still be of value in skin rejuvenation in between clinic treatments. Therefore enhancing and adding longevity to the results.
